Managing Director was not arrested by EFCC – Zenith Bank

Zenith Bank Plc has debunk a widespread reports that Economic and Financial Crime Commission arrested its Managing Director, Ebenezer Onyeagwu.

It was on the news by some media platforms that the CEO of Zenith Bank was detained by the EFCC in line with the allegation of fraud at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The Company Secretary and General Counsel of the Bank, Michael Otu, on Wednesday, released a statement that, “the reports of Onyeagwu’s arrest are “entirely false and inaccurate”.

He further stressed that, “the Bank is aware of the inaccurate reports circulating on social media and some news platforms alleging that Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, was arrested and detained by the EFCC on January 9, 2024, in line with the alleged fraud at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.”

Micheal said, “We wish to state that these reports are entirely false and not true. The MD was neither arrested nor detained by the EFCC or any other anti-graft agency.”
