The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the next phase of its ongoing recruitment exercise, which will involve a computer-based test (CBT) for shortlisted applicants.
The recruitment drive began with a public advertisement on December 27, 2024, declaring 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. According to the NCS, it received 573,523 applications, out of which 286,697 candidates were selected to proceed to the CBT stage.
The online test will be held from September 14 to 21, 2025. The Service said the decision to conduct the examination virtually reflects its commitment to transparency, accessibility, and fairness in the recruitment process.
Candidates can take the CBT from any location with reliable internet but must use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen display. The platform is not mobile-enabled. A facial verification process will be carried out during login, and applicants have been advised to maintain a neat appearance to avoid recognition problems.
The Service further warned that the application is sensitive to background noise, movement, or window switching. Any disruption, whispering, or attempt to toggle between screens may lead to automatic logout or disqualification.
To help applicants prepare, a mandatory pre-test session will be conducted two days before the CBT. Shortlisted candidates will receive two links—one for the pre-test and another for the actual examination. Applicants for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will also sit for an additional CBT in the next phase, a requirement not applicable to the other cadres.
Reaffirming its stance on transparency, the NCS stressed that the recruitment exercise is strictly merit-based and free of charge. It urged applicants to rely only on official communication channels for updates, warning that it does not conduct recruitment via social media or request payments at any stage.
Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, who issued the statement on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, assured stakeholders that successful candidates would be duly informed of subsequent stages of the exercise.
