Nigerian Army Varsity VC Gets Assurances For Support

Date:

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has assured the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) of the theatre’s unwavering support in strengthening security and academic collaboration.

This assurance was given on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, when the Vice-Chancellor of NAUB, Professor Lawal Bala Buratai, paid a special visit to the Headquarters of OPHK in Maiduguri. The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Military), Colonel Yusuf Bello, and the Commanding Officer, Administrative Battalion NAUB, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Musa.

During the visit, Professor Buratai stated that the objective was to familiarize with the theatre command and explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration with OPHK. He expressed gratitude to the Theatre Commander for the warm reception and commended OPHK personnel for their sacrifices, resilience, and sustained efforts in curbing insecurity in Borno State and the North East.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the visit was long overdue. He also presented a range of academic programmes offered by the university—including Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Security Management—and encouraged OPHK’s participation to enhance capacity development.

In his response, the Theatre Commander warmly welcomed Professor Buratai and his entourage. He underscored the central role of education in national development and described NAUB as the “flagship university of the Nigerian Armed Forces.” Major General Abubakar reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to safeguarding all critical national assets, emphasizing that NAUB remains of strategic importance to the theatre.

The Theatre Commander assured the university community of OPHK’s continuous support and expressed readiness to leverage the proposed courses to enhance operational and administrative capacity within the command.

The visit concluded with the signing of the Visitors’ Register, exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
