The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Salihu Umar, from Dogon Dutse in Niger Republic, for allegedly being in possession of 10 rustled cows.
Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar said in a statement on Tuesday that Umar was arrested on Sunday at about 5:30 p.m. at the Bachaka cattle market.
According to the statement, the cows belonged to Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town in Bunza Local Government Area. Aliyu had earlier reported that 68 of his cattle were stolen on August 20, 2025, by suspected Lakurawa bandits who fled across the border into Niger Republic.
“The suspect was apprehended at the Bachaka cattle market with 10 rustled cows,” Abubakar said, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, commended officers for the breakthrough and directed intensified efforts to track down fleeing gang members and recover the remaining stolen cattle.
