NNPP Clarifies: Kwankwaso’s Move to APC Is Personal, Not Party Decision

Date:

The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Ogini Olaposi, has clarified that the recent declaration by former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) concerns him and his Kwankwasiya Movement—not the party.

In a statement on Monday in Lagos, Olaposi stressed that Kwankwaso’s announcement confirms that he and his supporters are no longer part of the NNPP. “At last, we have been vindicated. Any negotiations with Kwankwaso should be conducted in his personal capacity,” he said.

Olaposi emphasized that the NNPP remains focused on preparing for the 2027 general elections and will decide on any alliance with the APC or other parties collectively, as a party. He noted that the Memorandum of Understanding between the NNPP and Kwankwasiya Movement ended after the 2023 presidential election and that the movement’s attempt to hijack the party led to their expulsion.

“The political value of Kwankwaso has declined after betraying the NNPP, which provided him a platform for his presidential ambition,” Olaposi added, warning that any negotiation in the name of the NNPP by the Kwankwasiya Movement is null and void.

He also lamented delays by INEC in uploading the party’s new executive following a court-ordered convention that produced the Dr. Agbo Major-led leadership.
