Prof. Abubakar Momoh: Palace confirms burial

Prof. Abubakar Momoh, DG Electoral Institute, buried in Auchi.

The Dania of Auchi, Alhaji Usman Abudah, has confirmed burial of Professor Abubakar Momoh, the Director –General of Nigerian Electoral Institute, who died early on Monday.

He was buried at Auchi late afternoon on Monday, according to Islamic rites.

Abudah, a veteran journalist, said in a statement that the Royal Family had formally announced the death of the political scientist.

Momoh, a member of the Auchi royal family , according to sources had been battling with his health.

Another family member confirmed he last saw Momoh at Spar supermarket in Cedi plaza in Abuja on Sunday afternoon with his wife.

“We had a long discussion on his health and exchanged banters as well before he drove off in his official jeep.’’ he said.

The death of the civil society leader, took his coleagues and admirers by surprise.

In a tweet, Jibrin Ibrahim‏ @JibrinIbrahim said: “ Very sad to lose Prof #AbubakarMomoh this morning. Great scholar. Committed intellectual. Loyal friend. Fine teacher. Pan Africanist.’’

CDD West Africa‏ @CDDWestAfrica also tweeted that, We are sad to announce the passing of one of our founders, Prof Abubakar Momoh, RIP humanist per excellence.’’

AKINTOLA Mubarak‏ @AkinMubarak said: “On #DemocracyDay, the nation loses a Democracy activist and icon…May Allah grants Prof. Abubakar Momoh AlJannah Firdaus’’

Josiah Emerole, said in his Facebook comment: “Oh, what a life. He was among those that made ASUU a great association in those at LASU with the likes of Prof Asaju in the days of Jega when we reported Education. May his soul rest in peace”

Family members also took to their Facebook pages on the death of their brother.

Waab Momoh said: “Too shocking a news. May Allah grant him aljannah Firdausi and forgive his mistakes, ameen

Mohammed Momoh said:“So shocking. May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”

“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus,” Yusuf Momoh prayed.

He is survived by his wife and children.
