Saudi Arabia’s Key Oil Hub Ras Tanura Hit Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Date:

Saudi Aramco has suspended operations at its Ras Tanura refinery following a reported drone attack in the area, Reuters has reported.

Ras Tanura, the kingdom’s largest oil export terminal and one of the world’s biggest refining facilities, processes about 550,000 barrels of crude daily. The site handles nearly 7% of global oil supply, making it critical to international energy markets.

Reports indicate the strike, allegedly carried out by Iran amid escalating regional tensions, caused a fire in the refinery’s processing complex. Authorities have confirmed that the blaze has been contained, and no casualties have been reported.

The attack comes in the wake of a series of US and Israeli airstrikes against Iran, which began on Saturday, February 28, 2026, further intensifying security concerns in the Middle East.

Energy analysts warn that any prolonged disruption at Ras Tanura could significantly impact global oil supply, underscoring the vulnerability of key infrastructure in the region.
