Sokoto Christian Leaders Call for Unity, Stronger Action on Insecurity at Easter Prayer Gathering

Date:

Christian leaders in Sokoto State have called for urgent action to address insecurity, greater unity among believers, and renewed sacrifice as they marked the 2026 Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace.

The event, organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), was held on Monday at the Deeper Life Bible Church and brought together participants from various denominations to pray for peace in the state and across Nigeria.

Speaking at the gathering, the CAN Chairman in Sokoto State, Kayode Moses James, said the resurrection of Jesus Christ offers hope despite the country’s growing security challenges.

“Jesus is alive. The grave could not hold Him, and that victory gives us confidence that peace can return to our land,” he said, describing the event as both a celebration of faith and a collective appeal for peace and divine intervention.

James lamented the effects of banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks in parts of northern Nigeria, noting that many communities continue to face fear and displacement. He urged government and security agencies to take decisive steps to protect lives and property.

Also speaking, the Sokoto State Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Ben Musa, said the Easter gathering reinforced unity among Christians across denominations.

Musa emphasised that national progress requires sacrifice, drawing parallels with the Easter message of Christ’s sacrifice. He urged Nigerians to embrace collective responsibility in addressing the country’s challenges.

On insecurity, he proposed a three-point response, stressing the need for intensified prayers, stronger government action to safeguard citizens, and responsible conduct by individuals to support peace efforts.

The clerics said the Easter gathering served not only as a religious observance but also as a platform to promote unity, resilience, and renewed commitment to peace in Sokoto State and the country at large.
