Two African Nations Secure 2026 World Cup Berths

Date:

The African zone qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicked off on November 15, 2023, will conclude in November 2025, with only nine nations guaranteed direct qualification.

So far, Morocco and Tunisia have booked their places at next year’s tournament, while one additional African team will compete in the FIFA Play-Off Tournament for a possible tenth slot.

With just two rounds of matches remaining, several top teams are close to sealing qualification. Egypt (Group A, 20 points), Senegal (Group B, 18 points), Benin Republic (Group C, 14 points), Cape Verde (Group D, 19 points), Côte d’Ivoire (Group F, 20 points), Algeria (Group G, 19 points), and Ghana (Group I, 19 points) are all in strong positions to finish top of their respective groups.

The final fixtures, scheduled within the next fortnight, will determine which nations join Morocco and Tunisia in representing Africa at the 2026 World Cup.
