Two Victims Rescued in Enugu Trafficking Case

Date:

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Raymond Wonna, for alleged involvement in human trafficking. Two victims, Miracle Ogar (18) and Angela Kingsley (16) from Cross River State, were rescued during the operation, the command said.

SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, stated that the victims were intercepted on July 30, 2025, while being trafficked to Ghana under the pretext of securing job opportunities.

“They were intercepted at about 2 pm by operatives of the command’s crack tactical squad during a routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway,” Ndukwe said.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attempted to rape the victims while lodging them in a hotel, where they were kept pending departure. The victims were reportedly lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, to work in a restaurant owned by the suspect’s “baby mama” in Ghana without their parents’ knowledge.

The rescued individuals have been reunited with their families, while efforts continue to apprehend other members of the trafficking network.

Quoting the state Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, Ndukwe commended the operatives for their vigilance and prompt action. He also urged citizens to remain alert and report suspicious activities, emphasizing the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and other violent crimes.

“CP Giwa reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking and other violent crimes,” the statement added.
