The Association of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),
University of Ilorin Chapter has commissioned the second phase of the ‘ASUU Hostel’, bringing the number of bed space built by the Union in less than twenty-four months to over hundred.

students was unveiled on Monday by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and Chairman of the Association of West African Universities(AWAU), Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali.

The Chairman said that the construct and maintenance of such
facilities is to complement the effort of government in making life
comfortable for members of the university community.
“The project commenced with the first phase of five rooms during Prof. Egbewole regime while Prof. Adeoye added the ASUU shopping mall and commenced the second phase of the hostel project.
Our commitment in the first year of our administration was to ensure the completion of the second phase and renovate the first phase, as at Monday November 7, 2016 the first phase was completely renovated by replacing all the faulty ones and facilities and the completion of the second phase with all facilities to make life comfortable for the student of the University”, the ASUU Chairman said.
Dr. Raheem stressed that ASSU of Unilorin is committed in sustaining the stability of the University system without infringing on the welfare of staff.
“Our administration is currently allocating the 1200 plot of land to
its members for the construction of residential and hostel
accommodation in a location barely 10 minutes derive from the campus.
The development presently on the land is that the Unilorin Academic Staff Union of Universities has no issue neither with the community nor the government on the land”, he said.
The chairman appeal to the University management to approve the
opening of the Sentu Gate of the University to enable their members to have direct access to the land for effective occupation.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and
Chairman, Association of West African Universities(AWAU), Prof.
AbdulGaniyu Ambali, reaffirmed that welfare of staff and students
remains the top priority of his administration.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the executive and members of the
Academic Staff for leading the way disclosed that it was the
contribution of ASUU on hostel development that encouraged other
private ownerships to join the University.
“Welfare of ASUU and other Unions in the University is paramount to my
administration and I will continue to support and accommodate your
partnership. Without you we cannot be where we are today”, the
While acknowledging the contribution of ASUU on hostel development,
Prof. Ambali pledged his administration readiness to continue to
support the University of Ilorin ASUU and other unions on campus
praising them for the great achievement recorded in the 2015/2016
academic session that included the building of a new hostel.
He said that his administration will continue to do anything that will
encourage the staff to perform better in order to take University of
Ilorin to greater height.
