Former co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) advocacy group, Aisha Yesufu, on Thursday alleged that President Bola Tinubu rigged the 2023 election not to govern, but to enjoy the privileges of the presidency.
Yesufu made the claim while reacting to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s criticism of Tinubu’s planned two-way trip abroad to Japan and Brazil. Obi had described the proposed journey as insensitive, questioning how a president could leave Nigeria amid pressing challenges to visit the same foreign country he recently visited.
“How can anyone explain that a President who came from Brazil recently and met with the President is returning to the same country, leaving the various degrees of challenges at home unresolved?” Obi had asked.
In response, Yesufu, referring to Tinubu as “Agba baller,” posted on X: “Mr Tinubu did not rig election to govern, he rigged election to enjoy the perks of office. Agba baller.”
According to reports, Tinubu is expected to depart Nigeria for Japan and Brazil today, barring any changes to his travel plans.
