185 Students Bag First-Class Honours at Redeemer’s University Convocation

Date:

Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, is set to graduate at least 1,341 undergraduates during its 17th convocation ceremony, with 185 students earning first-class honours.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shadrach Akindele made the disclosure at a news conference on Monday in Ede, marking the convocation and the university’s 20th anniversary. Of the undergraduates, 662 will receive second-class upper degrees, 410 second-class lower, 79 third-class, and five pass degrees. The ceremony is scheduled for October 9.

The top graduating student, Joel Durigbo from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, achieved a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.0.

At the postgraduate level, 338 students will receive diplomas and degrees on October 10. These include 109 postgraduate diplomas, 65 Master of Arts, 120 Master of Science, 25 Master of Business Administration, and 19 Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

“This year’s convocation is particularly special as we celebrate both a distinguished graduating class, ‘The Indomitable Set,’ and 29 years of Redeemer’s University,” Akindele said.

Honorary degrees will be awarded to notable figures, including Omolewa Ahmed, wife of a former Kwara State governor; Mike Bamiloye, president of Mount Zion Faith Ministries; and Kola Adeshina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Group.

Highlighting the university’s achievements, Akindele noted that Redeemer’s University has been selected by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as one of eight private universities in Nigeria for postgraduate training of TETFund-sponsored candidates. He also announced that the university ranked second nationally in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking and led in several Sustainable Development Goals categories.
