“I never touched him” – Sam Larry speaks on Mohbad controversy

Date:

Controversial Lagos socialite Sam Larry has spoken out again to deny any involvement in the harassment or alleged assault of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

In a recent interview, Larry clarified his version of events surrounding a widely circulated video many believed to show him confronting the singer during a music video shoot. According to Larry, the confrontation was strictly verbal and revolved around a financial dispute.

“I did not threaten Mohbad with boys. I only went to the beach to buy something for my child,” he explained. “I saw Mohbad and some others shooting a video, so I approached him. Some beach boys followed me, but I never laid a finger on him.”

Larry claimed that he asked the late artist to settle a debt, but the issue was quickly diffused by fellow artist Zlatan. “Zlatan held me and said I had passed that level, and that was the end of it. I never touched Mohbad or tried to harm him,” he said.

He also dismissed reports that singer Naira Marley was involved in the incident, saying, “Naira Marley didn’t even see him. I was behind. He wasn’t aware of what happened.”

Larry added that his police detention in 2023 stemmed from a petition filed by Mohbad, which included accusations of property damage and threats allegedly made on behalf of Elegushi, claims Larry insists were false.

In October 2023, both Sam Larry and Naira Marley were arrested and held in connection with Mohbad’s death, following public outcry and suspicion. They were released on bail after five weeks in custody. In February 2025, a Lagos magistrate court formally cleared the duo of any wrongdoing related to the singer’s death.

Despite the legal clearance, public suspicion has persisted, with many Nigerians continuing to question the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s untimely demise.
