Betta Edu lays foundation for IDPs resettlement project in Benue

Nigeria’s Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Betta Edu company of the Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia yesterday performed ground breaking ceremony for construction of resettlement home for Internally Displaced Persons.

Held at Mbagwen (Anter) in Guma loccal Government Area of Benue State, the event is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s commitments to the vulnerables.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the minister disclosed the willingness of the present dispensation to relocate internally Displaced Persons to their ancestral homes.

She further explained that provisions of cluster resettlement home, was part of Tinubu’s campaigned promise to return the Displaced Persons to their ancestral homes,consequently began the process of resettlement home.

Dr. Edu further reminded the audience of President Tinubu’s seven point agenda which includes food security, provisions as well as Security and others in the country.

The minister butressed that the current administration considered Benue State very critical towards achieving the desired of enough food to feed the Nation,as the food basket of the country.

She also informed that locals in every community would be used to do the cluster houses through direct labour

The Minister however stressed that the project would be completed within six months so that those already in the Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) camps would be relocated to the settlements.

Revealing that in each of the affected communities there would be establishment of 20 houses building stressing it is allowed for them to returned back to their ancestral homes, pointing out nine cluster resettlement would be spread in nine centres in the State.

In his comment, Governor Hyacinth Alia said the security challenges is beyond herders as the state was even confronted with banditry

He posited there is under ground efforts which the way for relative peace in recent times resulting to collaborative work to returned the refugees to cluster resettlement home in their ancestral homes.

“According to him, the Internally Displaced Persons by their body language does appeared their tired wishes to returned home.

Fr,Alia implored his administration determination to support the success of the programme to succeed.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Mr.Aondowase Kunde has expressed regrets that the crisis affected 8 local government areas in the state.

Mr. Kunde explained that the project would be spread in 21 local government areas across the state. Insisting that measures were taken to avoid vulnerability forestall future reoccurrence.
