The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has intercepted three luxury vehicles and other contraband items with a combined duty paid value of over ₦1.4 billion.

Among the seized vehicles is a 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost valued at ₦905 million. Others include a 2014 Mercedes-Benz 4Matic worth ₦21.4 million and a 2018 Honda Accord estimated at ₦32.2 million.

Also confiscated were 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice (equivalent to more than seven truckloads), 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, 105 used tyres, and other prohibited goods.

The Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, announced the seizures on Thursday during a press briefing at the Idiroko border. He stressed that the operation was part of the Command’s determination to clamp down on economic saboteurs undermining Nigeria’s economy and security.

“In July 2025 alone, the Command generated ₦45,054,191 in revenue, a 27.47% increase compared to ₦35,327,852 recorded in July 2024. This growth reflects improved compliance, stronger border monitoring, and enhanced stakeholder engagement,” Otunla stated.

During the briefing, illicit drugs seized were formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation, in line with inter-agency collaboration efforts.

Otunla warned smugglers and their collaborators that the command would remain resolute and unyielding. “No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you,” he said.

The Controller praised the resilience of his operatives and acknowledged the cooperation of other security agencies, as well as local communities, for providing credible intelligence that aided the success of the operations.
