From Cup Glory to Exit: Kwara United Sack Coach Tunde Sanni

Date:

Kwara United have parted ways with head coach Tunde Sanni following a disappointing string of results that culminated in a 1–0 home defeat to Abia Warriors on MatchDay 7 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The decision comes after a turbulent spell in which the Ilorin-based side suffered three defeats in their last four outings, including back-to-back losses to Ghana’s Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Sanni, who etched his name in the club’s history by leading Kwara United to their maiden President Federation Cup title earlier this year—after a goalless draw and 4–3 penalty shootout victory over Abakaliki FC in Lagos—thus becomes the first managerial casualty of the 2025/26 NPFL season.

In a swift move, the club announced that assistant coach Ashifat Suleiman will take over in an interim capacity, ahead of their crucial MatchDay 8 trip to Kano to face Kano Pillars.

The latest defeat leaves the Afonja Warriors in 10th place on the NPFL standings with eight points from seven matches, as the club looks to stabilize its campaign under new leadership.
