The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a farmer along Agunla Farm Road in Ayede-Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident was reported at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday by a concerned resident.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased, identified as Ben Daniels, was riding on a motorcycle with one James Unekwu to a farm camp when they were allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen.
Jimoh stated that Unekwu managed to escape, while Daniels was killed and his body dumped by the roadside.
Police operatives reportedly mobilised to the scene, evacuated the body, and deposited it at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Unekwu is currently in protective custody as investigations continue.
The command urged residents to remain calm and avoid blocking highways or taking actions that could disrupt public peace, assuring that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, youths in Ayede-Ogbese community on Tuesday morning blocked the Akure/Owo highway in protest against the killing and rising insecurity in the area, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill.
Authorities said normalcy will be restored and that security agencies remain committed to ensuring justice and maintaining order in the state.
