Nigeria, 2nd largest film producer in the world, largest in Africa

Mrs Chiazor Malize, Managing Director, Financial Institution Training Center, has said that Nigeria’s movie industry is the second largest film producer in the world and largest in Africa.

Malize disclosed this in Lagos on Monday during the Nollywood Creative Minds Forum (NCMF), 5th annual programme; Tagged: ‘In Pursuit of Better seminar and short-film screening.’

She said that NCMF is in collaboration with reputable establishment that one could tap into and make huge success, such as financial institution that could lend money for film production.

She said public private partnership (PPP), which is ongoing at the National Theatre Complex, Iganmu, Lagos, is a good place to visit now as the place had taken a new look.

She said connecting well would bring money and value into the industry, noting that the industry needs to be developed and structured so it could add value.

Malize said that thirst and hunger of Nigerian movie has been long, that the bar has to be raised and called for quality of film productions.

She enjoined the NCMF to beam their searchlight in the direction of sport, education, economy charging the industry to fuse into education, sports and make money.

She said NCMF should demonstrate discipline, show up at the right place and right time.

She concluded that if a traceable track record is in place, financial institutions will be ready to partner with the film industry.

Speaking, Mrs Ijeoma Richard, convener and President NCMF, said that opportunities abound in the industry.

Richard said there’s room for content creation and sponsorship, and that content creation is allowed.

She said she was in Dubai in September and there was an exhibition there, as Nollywood, was all over the world.

She said that the film industry has been making waves in the last 20 years and still counting.

She said that content creators have a lot to do in driving commercials, saying Nigeria film industry is finding its way and has achieved a lot in terms of our culture.

Also, Dr Kelechi Deca, Editor in Chief, African Economy Magazine and guest speaker, said that NCMF should maximise potentials and push for that cultural change.

Deca said the industry should understand their environment for opportunities that culture influences on how far people would go in life.
