NSCDC apprehends vandal with three transformer feeders in Plateau

Date:

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Plateau Command, has apprehended a transformer vandal at Don-Kassa, Miango in Jos North Local Government Area.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Solomon Olasupo, told newsmen on Friday in Jos that the vandal, Danjuma Jacob, 27, impersonated a staff of Peace Tech. Electrical Services.

Olasupo explained the suspect presented a fake identification card of the firm, which is a subsidiary of National Independent Power Project, to avert arrest.

The commandant, however, said that after investigation, it was revealed that Jacob was a former staff of the company who had been laid off since 2015.

“He has been perpetrating the crime in the guise of been a staff of the company.

“Jacob, who is the principal suspect, confessed to the crime, saying that he vandalised three transformers in different parts of Jos metropolis and removed three feeder pillars.

“The suspect confessed that after his operation he takes the stolen feeders to Abuja, where there is a ready market for them,” he said.

The vandal said he hired a commercial tricycle to transport the feeders.

The commandant advised all genuine commercial tricycle operators to be wary of their passengers and the type of goods they convey as such tricycle operators would be considered as accomplices to the crime.

Olasupo warned that the act of transformer and electrical installation vandalism was an act of national sabotage that had affected the state greatly, thereby causing innocent people to bear the brunt of their criminal act.

While pledging to curb crime in the state, he warned those who engaged in such acts to desist forthwith or risk the wrath of the law.
