Pound Inches Up Against Naira as February Trading Begins

Date:

The British Pound Sterling (GBP) opened February 2026 with a slight uptick against the Naira in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.

In the official market, the Pound started at ₦1,908.75, briefly climbing to ₦1,916.86 before settling around ₦1,909.72 by mid-morning. This is a small increase from last week’s close near ₦1,906, reflecting typical early-month adjustments as businesses and individuals process international payments.

Analysts note that despite the minor rise, the Pound remains below last week’s average of ₦1,932, signaling continued stability of the Naira in the official market. Meanwhile, the parallel market remains steady within its usual range.
