⁠⁠⁠10 Unilorin athletes for 2017 NUGA games

A total of 110 athletes from the University of Ilorin have qualified to represent the institution at the upcoming 25th Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) games, to be held at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State from April 19 to April 30, 2017.

The Chairman of the Unilorin Sports Council, Prof. U. B. Eke, made this known while briefing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, on the performance of the Unilorin contingent at the zonal qualifying tournament.

Prof. Eke said that 32 coaches and officials would accompany the students to the games.
He commended the Students’ Union for supporting the athletes who took part in handball, football and volleyball at the Zonal qualifying series, while he sought the support of the management for the successful participation of the Unilorin contingent at the games.

Prof. Eke also thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his love for the sport and his continuous support to ensure that the students of the University win laurels at events and games.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the effort of the Sports Council, adding that sport is a uniting factor in the nation and that “the University wants to ensure that we don’t lack in that area”.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. A. Y. Abdulkareem, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Chairman of the Sports Council, the Director of Sports, Students’ Union officials and everyone connected with the success of the Unilorin contingent.

He said that the University management was already working to ensure that all the logistics required for the transportation of the contingents to and fro are put in place, as two Marcopolo buses have been approved for the trip to the Makurdi venue of the games.

The Vice-Chancellor also praised the Students’ Union for good leadership and for demonstrating good character for their support during the zonal qualification.

Fifty-three universities are expected to participate in the 10-day event.
