Boat mishap kills 50 in Niger

No fewer than 50 persons have been reportedly killed in a boat mishap that occurred at Kiri village in Munya local government of Niger state.

ROYAL NEWS gathered that the victims had boarded a canoe to convey them to Zumba market in Shiroro local government of the state which had an accident around early hours of Sunday .

According to an eyewitness the cause of the mishap was due to heavy rain storm that morning while they were on their way leading to the boat capsizing, claiming the lives of majority of the occupants.

Findings revealed that the canoe was conveying both men and women as well as youths and children numbering about sixty whose bodies were yet to be found. Read also: Why Buhari will win 2019 election—–APC

When contacted the Niger State Police command, Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, ASP Babalola Adewole, confirmed the incident noting that the command has already sent a team of Police marine to the area but yet to hear from them as at the time of going to me press.

Also contacted was the Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA, PRO Mallam Hussaini who further confirmed that there were 60 passengers on board while four persons were rescued alive others whereabout was still not known but in touch with the village head and marine Police at the state.
