Exit of Saraki, others from APC: a blessing to Kwara people – aspirant

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kwara, Barrister Ahmed Akanbi has described the defections of people from the party to the PDP as a blessing as APC was made up of strange bed fellows.
Mustapha-Akanbi, who said this on Friday in Ilorin while speaking with journalists said APC in Kwara now has people who have the mind to
salvage the state from 16 years of bad governance.
The aspirant is the son of former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC), late Justice
Mustapha Akanbi.
Akanbi said those who left the party wee those who were only interested in the pursuit of their personal interests, adding that Nigerians can now expect the best of governance that President
Mohammadu Buhari meant for the country.
According to him, he was moved to contest the governorship seat of APC in order to ameliorate the poor conditions of the people.
Akanbi lamented nothing worked in the state as virtually all infrastructures have collapsed or dilapidated.
“Each sector in Kwara State is in shambles. No school in the state is qualified for proper education.
“Some schools have closed down for lack of teachers. No more scholarship nor bursary for students while people are being impoverished to make them succumb to an individual domination.
“Teachers are not paid; pensioners are not paid. Empowerment are not done to the advantage of the people rather; it is done to further make
the people poor.
“The major problem in Kwara State is poverty and those who should make their life better are not bothered,” he added.
Akanbi also expressed concern at the collapse of agriculture in the state, lamenting that the state government did not have a single tractor to assist farmers in ploughing their lands.
“Kwara State used to be number three producer of Rice in Nigeria. It is sad that last year, Lagos wanted to produce lake rice and it had to contact Kebbi state.
“The rich River Niger that was used to produce rice in the past had been abandoned. Kwara at present does not have a single tractor. Most of the government works in the state are contracted out to consultants,” the aspirant added.
Akanbi promised better life for the people of the state if he became the governor of the state.
He said that if he became the governor come 2019, he would embark on various empowerment programmes to enhance the welfare and wellbeing of the people.
“I am coming on board to better the lives of the people and make things work for the generality of the people of the state.
“The affairs of this Kwara State from now should be determined by
Kwarans. We need to come together to take our fates in our hands,” he
said.
He therefore appealed to the people of the state to take advantage of the extension of the Voter registration to collect their voter cards
to enable them exercise their franchise in 2019.
Akanbi noted that the permanent voter card (PVC) is the only weapon the people of the state has to effect a change of government by voting
for candidates of APC during the elections.
