FG set to partner agencies to implement science and technology park

The Federal Government has expressed its desire to partner with institutions and development partners to assist in the early implementation of Sheda Science and Technology Complex, (SHESTCO) Park.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, while addressing participants at the first international workshop on Science Parks and Innovation ecosystem for national development held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The Minister noted that the outcome of such partnership is the production of feasibility report and business plan by UNESCO, fencing of the Science and Technology Park at SHESTCO, Sheda, Abuja and the production of a Master Plan by a Consultant.
He further noted that organizations such as the World Technopolis Association, UNESCO, Science Parks and Government of Poland, China Great Wall Industry, United Kingdom Science Parks Association are also assisting in the realization of the SHESTCO Parks.
According to him, “Science Parks stimulate and manage the flow of knowledge and technology among Universities, R&D Institutions, Companies and Markets. Other Benefits of Science Parks include facilitating the creation and growth of innovation based companies through incubation and spin-off processes.”
He however promised to assist Nigerian Universities in setting up Science Parks in line with the federal government’s move to diversify the economy through Science Technology and Innovation (STI).
“Universities are connectors that cultivate highly talented human resources and provide them to companies and start-up companies can be established on the basis of the commercialization of technologies developed in University workshop and laboratories”, he added.
