Jigawa Assembly Passes N901.8bn 2026 Budget

Date:

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has passed the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a budget of N901.8 billion, alongside N288 billion for local government councils.

The passage followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Appropriation, presented by its chairman, Hamza Ibrahim Adamu, during plenary.

The budget, tagged “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa II,” was presented to the assembly on November 25, 2025. It places strong emphasis on capital expenditure, which accounts for about 77 per cent of the total allocation, with significant funding also directed to education and agriculture.

Announcing the passage, Speaker of the House, Aliyu Dangyatim, said the budget was approved as presented, with a total sum of N901.841 billion.

Dangyatim explained that N693.4 billion was earmarked for capital projects to accelerate infrastructure development across the state.

He noted that the 2026 budget represents a 19.2 per cent increase over the 2025 appropriation, reflecting the state government’s commitment to growth and development.

The assembly commended Governor Umar Namadi for prioritising innovation and transformation in the fiscal plan.

“This budget aligns with our vision for Jigawa,” the speaker said, adding that the legislature would continue to work closely with the executive to ensure effective implementation.
