Lagos gridlock will reduce drastically by January 2021– Amaechi
The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has said the gridlock experienced by commuters in Lagos state would reduce drastically with the commissioning of Lagos-Ibadan railway by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021.
Amaechi stated this while speaking at the APM Terminal during an inspection on Saturday and urged the APM Terminals to allow China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) access for the extension of Apapa seaports railway kto ensure its completion by January, 2021.
Amaechi stated that the January date set for the commissioning of Apapa Extention 2 railway alongside that of Lagos-Ibadan remains sacrosanct and sue for stakeholders involved to be cooperative for the realisation of the said date.
“We have already told the President, that we are commissioning in January. Now, I am working towards that time. We must achieve that time.
“The moment we begin movement of cargo from Lagos to Ibadan, the Lagos gridlock will reduce drastically and that’s my objective in January,” stated Amaechi
The Country Manager of APM Terminal, Klaus Laursen, while taking the Minister through the monitoring station said the aim of putting it in place is to ensure the control and monitoring of cargoes in and out of the terminal.
Laursen stated that the although the facility to encourage productivity is not yet inplace, the decision to introduce a monitoring station in Nigeria based on the trend in Shanghai and other global towns where similar operations take place.
