Lekki Council Chair Warns Against Violence, Vows Prosecution of Offenders

Date:

Bamidele Kasali

The Chairman of the Lekki Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Bamidele Kasali, has warned residents to shun violence against women and the girl-child, saying offenders will face prosecution under the law.

Kasali gave the warning during a media interview in Lekki, noting that the advisory became necessary amid rising cases of domestic violence and child abuse in communities.

He said individuals found culpable of such offences would be arrested and prosecuted, stressing that the council is committed to protecting vulnerable groups.

Kasali urged residents to uphold moral values and promote respect, dignity and safety for women and children within households and communities.

He also called on community leaders, religious institutions and other stakeholders to intensify advocacy and awareness campaigns against abuse.

The council chairman encouraged victims and witnesses of domestic violence to report incidents promptly to relevant authorities, assuring them of support and protection.

He further disclosed that the council would continue to collaborate with security agencies, federal and state ministries, civil society organisations and other partners to strengthen grassroots sensitisation efforts.

Kasali expressed optimism that sustained awareness programmes would help reduce domestic violence and child abuse in the area and promote safer communities.
