Meghan Markle and Prince Harry rave about son Archie’s milestones as they chat with activist Malala Yousafzai to commemorate International Day of the Girl Child (video)
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry joined Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai for a discussion to commemorate International Day of the Girl this weekend.
Malala, an advocate for education for women and girls, who survived an assassination attempt on a bus, spoke to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex about a lot of things, including the importance of women all over the world having access to education.
The Duke and Duchess also spoke about their own experiences at school.
Speaking from their home in Santa Barbara, Meghan discussed her priorities when it comes to raising Archie.
She explained, “To be able to raise our son in a way where everything about his nourishment is in terms of educational substance, and how you can learn and how you can grow. You know, having the privilege of being able to go to school is something that, I think, oftentimes is taken for granted.”
Malala also went on to ask the Sussexes how they have been spending lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic. Prince Harry replied, “We’ve been working really really hard and completely understand and get how challenging this is for absolutely everyone. The longer it goes on the more it’s going to be felt especially from a mental health aspect.”
Harry continued, “This is a really unifying moment to bring everyone together and acknowledge what everyone has been through, this traumatic experience, wherever you are in the world.”
The couple also said the pandemic made it possible for them to be present to witness their son’s milestones, adding that they would have been travelling otherwise.
They said, “We were both there for Archie’s first steps, his first run, his first fall, everything.”
“In so many ways we are fortunate to be able to have this time to watch him grow, and in the absence of COVID, we would be traveling and working more,” Meghan explained. “We’d miss a lot of those moments.”
Signing off from the chat, Malala adorably told Meghan and Harry, “I’m shortsighted so I can’t see the screen clearly. So I’m going to wear my glasses so I can see the screen clearly. I don’t know if Archie can talk yet, but all my best wishes and love and kisses to him.”
