Today, Muslim faithful across Kwara State gathered in large numbers at the Ilorin Emirate Central Praying Ground to observe the Eid‑el‑Fitr prayer, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The congregation came together early in the morning for the traditional two‑rakat Eid prayer and sermon, with worshippers exchanging greetings of peace and goodwill afterwards.
The event took on added significance this year because it was the first major Eid congregation in Ilorin since the passing of the late Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu, who died in January at the age of 75 after decades of spiritual leadership in the Emirate.
Leading the prayer today was the Imam Imole of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Abdullahi AbdulAmeen, who guided worshippers through the service and led supplications for peace, unity, and continued progress across the state and the nation.
After the service, community leaders and attendees underscored the importance of collective responsibility in fostering security and harmony. the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Security, Yusuf Gobir, urged citizens to work together to address challenges facing the state and country.
The earlier Eid celebration had been accompanied by messages of reflection and goodwill from the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu‑Gambari, who extended congratulations to the Muslim community on the completion of Ramadan and called for continued charity, tolerance, and respect among residents.
Following today’s Eid‑el‑Fitr prayer at the Ilorin Emirate Central Praying Ground, the President of the Ilorin Youth Emirate, Alhaji Uthman Olarenwaju Jagumo, called on the Muslim faithful of Ilorin to sustain their acts of kindness and support for the needy even after Ramadan.
In his remarks, Alhaji Jagumo implored good Muslims to continue their charitable efforts, emphasizing that the spirit of giving and community support should not end with the holy month. He stressed that consistent assistance to the less privileged strengthens social cohesion and reflects the true essence of Islamic teachings.
Today’s Eid prayer and associated messages reinforced the spirit of peace and unity that has defined celebrations in Ilorin, even amid the community’s recent loss and ongoing calls for cohesion and progress.
