Nigerian youths charged to develop entrepreneurship skill – Founder Ajayi Polytechnic

 

The Founder,  Ajayi Polytechnic, Ikere Ekiti, in  Ekiti State, Dr. Busayo  Ajayi , has called on  Nigerian youths and graduates of higher institutions  in the country to always develop an entrepreneurship
mindset for their advancement.

Dr. Ajayi,  also stressed the need for the country to imbibe the global modern ways  of running businesses through Information and Communication Technology, ICT.

Ajayi, who spoke at the weekend, during the institution’s maiden inaugural lecture in the institution on Entrepreneurship and Basics of Business skills held at the polytechnic conference hall in Ekiti State.

Also, speaking on the lecture, the Director of learning in the institution, Mr. Tolu  Fagbola said it was to help the students to know the practical realities  of businesses and entrepreneurship skills through the  ICT as a major factor  in how businesses thrive globally.

“In doing business in today’s world, we have moved away from the traditional  way characterized by trade by barter over a thousand years ago  to the new age of internet enabled businesses.”

He added that the biggest businesses in the world today such as pay pall,  Amazons,google, facebook, Uber etc do not physical infrastructure  but are operated using the power of internet.

The proprietor who lamented that most Nigerian youths and graduates are  jobless and unemployable because they lack the necessary skills and  training said the polytechnic was a platform designed to equip
them with the required entrepreneurial skills to set up businesses of their own.

Ajayi, who holds a Ph.D in Entrepreneurship said the most important skill  needed by the youths of this generation to be self-reliant and independence was for them acquire entrepreneurial skill and be vast in
the knowledge of the ICT.

“Innovativeness, being proactive and ability to take risks are some of the characteristics of the entrepreneurship which the youths must develop.  It has to do with creating businesses and becoming an
employer  of labour in the larger business world but within an organization  it is called entrepreneurship.

“Apart from creating businesses and being employable through the entrepreneurial training, the ICT knowledge will help them to secure jobs in other countries while in Nigeria because we are now in  global
world.”

He revealed that the institution was in partnership with Samsung and British  Computer Society to enhanced its training scope and confer international  recognition on the institution and its graduates said seminar were organized for corps members at the NYSC orientation camp at  Ise-Orun Ekiti by the polytechnic on entrepreneurship and ICT.

According to Fagbola, “60 percent of Nigerians are connected to the internet.  There are real opportunities there to help people understand how business are  run today through the power of ICT.

“ It is to teach them about how to connect business and entrepreneurship  with ICT so that they can be globally competitive. To introduce  them to businesses they can set up in their rooms and trade internationally and to make the most of business opportunities and other  available profitable platforms here in Nigeria and on the global scale”.
