Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Nasarawa State Command, has taken over Sandaji Medical Centre, Lafia, to provide medical services at affordable rate to patients and improve on their health status.
The State Commandant of Corps, Mr Bala Joshua, made this known on Saturday when he took journalists and other management staff of the Corps on assessment tour of the hospital in Lafia.
He said that the aim of the assessment of facilities in the hospital signified official take-over of the hospital by the management of the state command of the corps.
“We felt that we should officially notify the media and the public on the take-over of medical activities at Sandaji hospital by our command to provide health services to the people at affordable rate.
“We have entered into agreement with the management of the hospital for us to take over the hospital.
“We have already deployed our health personnel to render medical services to the people.
“We want to give the people the opportunity to access quality health care services at affordable rate to complement government hospitals and to assist the needy.
“We have done all these gestures, especially to the less privileged as part of our social responsibility to improve on their standard of living and to boost the socio-economic development of the state,” he said.
He said that the corps has qualified health personnel on ground and are already in touch with visiting health consultants that would assist to run the hospital effectively.
Joshua also used the medium to call on Muslims faithful and other Nigerians to use the Ramadan period to pray for peace and unity of the country.
He urged Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and live in peace irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the overall development of the country.
The Commandant inspected facilities at the consulting room, Laboratory, ultra sound room, X-Ray, pharmacy unit, theater, labour room, out-patient room, male and female wards among others.
The command had in January freed six inmates in Wamba prisons, five inmates in Lafia prisons and donated over N200, 000 to the sick and orphans in the state.
