Senate President eulogises Babangida’s virtues @79

As former military President Ibrahim Babangida mark his 79th birthday today, August 17, the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, has commended him for his contributions to national development even after leaving office as the number one citizen.
Lawan, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Ola Awoniyi, to rejoice with the former president, urged him to continue to be useful to the country and the citizenry.
He said “the General and former leader can be proud of his contributions to the defence of the territorial integrity, unity, and political and sociology-economic development of Nigeria.”
The Senate President noted that former “President Babangida has remained passionate about Nigeria more than two decades after his exit from active public service.”
Lawan, however, urged the elder statesman to continue to avail those in leadership positions the benefits of his experience and wise counsel for the unity, stability and progress of the nation.
The Senate President, therefore, wishes the General many more years of good health and peace of mind.
Babangida, who was born on August 17, 1941 served as the military President from 1985 until his resignation from office in 1993.
Before his ascension to the number one office, he had served in various capacities in the military, including the Chief of Army Staff from January 1984 to August 1985.
