Soludo Reaffirms Education Reforms At Uga Boys Anniversary

Date:

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening public education while attending the 50th anniversary of his alma mater, Uga Boys’ Secondary School, Uga, in Aguata Local Government Area.

Soludo returned to the school on Friday for the golden jubilee celebration, where he joined staff, students, alumni and community leaders to mark five decades of the institution’s existence.

Dressed in a replica of his old secondary school uniform, the governor reflected on his formative years at the school, recalling his roles as Library Prefect and Senior Prefect before graduating as a member of the pioneer class in 1980.

“Education is the cornerstone upon which we will build a stronger and more prosperous state,” Soludo said, noting that the discipline and values instilled by his teachers shaped his personal and professional development.

He commended the school’s founders, past teachers and community members for sustaining the institution over the years, describing educators as “unsung heroes” in the task of nation-building.

The governor also outlined ongoing reforms in the education sector, including plans to recruit more teachers across the state to reduce class sizes and improve learning outcomes.

“It is vital that we provide a conducive environment where every child can reach their full potential,” he said, reiterating his administration’s resolve to revitalise public schools.

In a post on his Facebook page, Soludo said the government was rebuilding Uga Boys’ Secondary School and 21 other public schools into smart schools as part of efforts to restore the glory of public education in the state.

The school’s principal, Mr Benjamin Igwema, praised the governor’s interventions, citing infrastructure upgrades, free education and WAEC sponsorship as initiatives that have improved enrolment and academic performance.

The event was attended by prominent alumni, including Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke, Bishop Owen Nwokolo and Mr Emeka Ezenwanyi, alongside other dignitaries.
