A nursery school pupil Guo Jintong, suffocated to death after her teacher allegedly taped her mouth shut because she was talking too much during morning exercise.

The incident happened at the Huadian Experimental Kindergarten in north-eastern China’s Jilin Province.

The six-year-old Jintong was pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived about 30 minutes after she had already been reported unconscious.

A witness said she was “too chatty” as her class did stretches and aerobic exercises in the morning, so her teacher allegedly sealed her mouth shut.

She claimed tape and possibly even glue was used to seal her shut and she was “smothered” to death in a few short minutes.

Realising the girl appeared “abnormal”, her teacher brought her to the school nurse who called an ambulance.

The child was taken to hospital, but doctors said they were “unable to bring her back”.

The nursery school has yet to release a statement about the incident, but government officials have confirmed the case and said they are investigating with local police.

A candlelight vigil was held for Jintong by members of the public, and her parents have also been filmed sitting outside the kindergarten’s gate waiting for an answer from the school.
