3 students feared dead, 4 injured as cement truck loses control in Lokoja

Kogi State Polytechnic students on Wednesday went on rampage, blocking the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway following the killing of their student and two other passengers by a cement laden truck.

Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps Olusegun Martins confirmed the accident said three people died while four others sustained injuries.

ROYAL NEWS learnt that, a truck loaded with cement was coming from the Okene end heading towards Abuja, when it lost control and rammed into a tricycle and a taxi.

A female student said to be in the department of Science Laboratory Technology of the institution died in the accident alongside two other passengers while four others sustained various degrees of injuries. Read also: Lions Clubs commences free diabetes treatment, others in Kwara

Bereaved students of the polytechnic went berserk and blocked the highway around the Felele end of the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway which resorted in a gridlock.

It took the combined efforts of the police, FRSC personnel and other security agents in the state to clear the road and allow flow of traffic.
