Counselling and Peace Psychology Don, Ayobami Hammed Delivers UNIBADAN’s 546th Inaugural Lecture March 21

A University lecturer and Professor of Counselling, Personnel and Peace Psychology at the University of Ibadan, Taslim Ayobami Hammed, will on Thursday 21st March 2024 deliver the 546th inaugural lecture of the University.

The lecture titled: “We Die Here Today: Youth Violence, Social Dysfunction and A Counselling Psychologist’s Pathway to Peace”, will be held at the Trenchard Hall by 5pm to be chaired by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K.O. Adebowale.

ROYAL NEWS gathered that the varsity don has over 80 publications in learned journals and edited proceedings and has attended and presented papers at numerous international and local conferences.

Prof. Hammed has served the University of Ibadan in several capacities; as a member of various committees both at the faculty and the University levels.

He was the Acting Director, Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CEPACS) from August 2007 to July 2009, and Acting Head, Department of Guidance and Counselling from July 2009 to July 2011, Director, Centre for Human Resource Development 2015 to 2016 at the University of Ibadan, recently, he was the Acting Provost, College of Education, Ipetu Ijesha Campus, Osun State University. He is now at the Department of Counselling and Human Development Studies, University of Ibadan.

He has equally served as consultants to many local and international development organizations on issues related to mental health, peace and conflict studies, education in emergencies and community social safety net mechanism.

Such organizations are : IDASA, AISA , USAID – OTI, British Council, DAAD, UNICEF, UNESCO, INEC, Catholic Relief Service Nigeria office , Action Aid International Nigeria office and most recently UNDP, North East office, Maiduguri, Borno State
