….berates Gov. Ahmed over non-usage of Paris Club to offset salaries arrears

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT) Kwara State chapter, has condemned Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed over the non-usage of the Paris Club Fund to offset the backlog salaries arrears of its members.

NUT however threatened strike action ahead of resumption date of schools if the persisting salary crisis is not resolved, ROYAL NEWS has gathered.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its state executive council meeting on trending issue affecting the welfare of its members held on Thursday at the NUT secretariat in Ilorin the Kwara State capital.

According to the group,”T he union is not satisfied with respect to non -payment of salary arrears of our members (3 months 282%) so far. We are equally grossly disturbed on the position of Kwara state government not to use the Paris Club fund to offset the salary arrears of our members as earlier pledged at different fora with the government, the union and other stakeholders.”

On the issue of teachers’ promotion, NUT posited that “Non implementation of promotion arrears with its attendant financial backing from 2015 till date is rather worrisome and unacceptable to our members both in primary and secondary schools.

“In view of this, the house resolves that this issues must be addressed immediately before the end of the year 2017, otherwise the union cannot guaranteed the resumption of our members come January 8,2018

“While we appreciate all stakeholders in this regard, we wish to reiterate that teachers salaries are also very important component of any state government is commitment to be citizenry. As stakeholder in Kwara project, teachers have decided to take their destinies in their hands, we shall not take anything less this time around.”
