LASU Senate elects Omobitan new Deputy VC

The Senate of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on Monday elected Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the University.

Omobitan defeated the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Raheem Akewushola, by 132 votes to 65.

Mr Emmanuel Fanu, Registrar of LASU, announced Omobitan, a Professor of Economics and current Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the University,

as the winner

“He succeeds Prof. Wahab Elias who completed his single tenure of two years in 2022.

“The election of the new DVC (Academics) will be ratified by the Governing Council of the University,” he said.

NAN reports that Prof. Omobitan was born on July 5,1956 in Lagos and obtained his Master of Science in Economics and Ph.D in Economics (Development Economics and Public Sector Economics) from University of Vienna, Austria in 1984 and 1987 respectively.

He joined Lagos State University as Lecturer II in 1989 and rose through the ranks to the position of an Associate Professor in 2012 and a Professor of Economics in 2015.
