The show will go on – Susanna Reid speaks on co-host Piers Morgan’s departure from the GMB show
Susanna Reid has addressed co-host, Piers Morgan’s departure from the Good Morning Britain Show.
Recall it was reported that Piers left the ITV show on Tuesday March 9, following 41,000 Ofcom complaints about his comments that he ‘didn’t believe’ Meghan Markle was suicidal.
Returning to the show today March 10 alongside Ranvir Singh, Reid addressed her co-star’s departure. She said ‘the show will go on’ after Morgan quit last night, ending a five-year team-up between them.
Reid said;
“Now Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the many things that viewers loved about the programme.
“He is without doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster.
“He has many critics and he has many fans.
“You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview, he himself clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday.
“There are many voices on GMB and everyone has their say, but now Piers has decided to leave the programme.
“Some of you may cheer and others will boo. He has been my presenting partner, Monday to Wednesday, for more than five years. And during Brexit and the pandemic and many issues he has been a voice for many of you and a voice that many have railed against.
“It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go.”
Ranvir Singh who was due to be on the show alongside Piers this morning and stepped up to become co-host with Reid, said: “It’s a strange morning for all of us here but the decision has been made.”
GMB continued with more discussion of the Harry and Meghan interview with Oprah. Susanna and Ranvir focussed on the conflict between Meghan’s quest for privacy, and her decision to talk to Oprah about her life for three hours.
ITV announced Piers Morgan was leaving the news programme on Tuesday. The move came after he stormed off the set of the show earlier in the day following a heated discussion with his colleague, Alex Beresford, about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s TV interview with Oprah Winfrey.
A statement released by ITV read;
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
