Why we moved departments to Lagos office – CBN Official
The Central Bank of Nigeria is set to move some of its departments to Lagos State, an internal memo available to newsmen on Saturday revealed.
According to an official of the central bank who pleaded anonymous, said the move is to decongest the apex bank’s head office located in Abuja.
It was gathered that some staff of the bank have resisted the transfer and claimed that it was motivated by tribal sentiment, the source claimed that it was for ‘staff safety and to increase productivity in the bank’.
Part of the memo reads, “This is to notify all staff members at the CBN Head Office that we have initiated a decongestion action plan aimed at optimizing the operational environment of the Bank.”
“This initiative aims to ensure compliance with building safety standards and enhance the efficient utilization of our office space.
“The step is necessitated by several reasons, including redistribute skills to ensure a more even geographical spread of talent, the need to align the Bank’s structure with its functions and objectives, and comply with building regulations.
“The action plan is to optimize the utilization of other Bank’s premises. With this plan, 1,533 staff will be moved to other CBN facilities within Abuja, Lagos and understaffed branches in the country.”
“The current occupancy level of 4,233 significantly exceeds the optimal capacity of 2,700 designed for the Head Office building. This overcrowding poses several critical challenges in the building and has great effects on the level of productivity in the bank.”
The source stated, “The CBN says instead of 200 workers to go work in other states and return to the head office, they should rather relocate to the state for safety of their lives and productivity enhancement”
Newsmen also gathered through the CBN official that the departments highlighted to be moved by the CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, are Banking Supervision, Other Financial Institutions Supervision, Payment System Management and Financial Policy Regulations departments, Consumer Protection.
