The Nigerian News Agency reports that some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after the crisis in the party dragged the commission to a Federal High Court in Abuja for failing to give the mandatory 90-day notice of election.
The decision to suspend the elections is contained in a statement signed on behalf of the commission’s chairman, retired Judge James Oyomire, and made available to journalists in Benin.
The statement says; “Here is the information of the general public that due to the content of the publication in the Vanguardia Newspaper of April 7, 2022.
The Federal High Court in Abuja prevented the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission from holding local government elections in the state scheduled for April 19, 2022.
“All processes leading to the holding of said elections are suspended, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notification,” the statement said.
