Kwara Dep. Gov. leads govt’s delegation to late Oyawoye’s funerals

Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, on Tuesday led a powerful delegation of Kwara State Government to the Islamic funerals of Prof. Jamiu Mosobalaje Oyawoye (CON) in Offa, amid prayers and eulogies for the first Professor of Geology in Africa and Baba Adini of Kwara State.

The Olofa of Offa Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, several Offa chiefs and dignitaries, and children of the deceased received the delegation.

The funerals (janaazah) were attended by hundreds of Muslim leaders, scholars, top politicians, and academics from across the state and beyond.

The scholars recalled the commitments of the late statesman to national development, human advancement, Islamic propagation, and peaceful coexistence in Offa and beyond.

Dr. Ahmad Agbaje, a member of the Kwara State Arabic Board who delivered the main lecture, explained that the late Oyawoye was a rare gem who gave his all to humanity and was humble in greatness.

“He had no apologies for his beliefs and his love for the Qur’an. He served God wholeheartedly and would be remembered for his philanthropy and commitment to public good,” Dr. Agbaje said.

He urged his survivors to emulate his good deeds and live up to the billings of being the children of a great man who was reputed for his integrity and service to humanity.

The state government’s delegation included Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development Architect Saifudeen Mohammed; Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development Hon. Kora Sabi; Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu; Commissioner for Finance Olasumbo Oyeyemi Florence; Commissioner for Communications Hon. Abubakar Saddiq Buhari; Special Adviser on Strategies Saadu Salau; Special Adviser on Special Duties AbdulRazaq Jiddah; Special Adviser on Youths Hon. Umar Mohammed; House of Representatives member-elect Ahmed Adamu Saba; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye; Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion (Islam) Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Maigoro; Chairman Kwara State Teaching Service Commission Bello Taoheed Abubakar; and several other top government officials, party officials and elders led by Acting APC Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Samari; Dr. Ghali Alaya; and Alhaji Baba Olosasa.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had on Monday described his death as the end of a great era, saying the late Crown Prince Oyawoye “was in a class of his own in philanthropy, academics accomplishments, community service, leadership, and support for development.”
