New NDLEA commandant pledges fight against illicit drugs supply in Kwara
The new Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kwara, Mohammed Ibrahim, on Friday in Ilorin assumed duties.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ibrahim, while assuming duties, promised to protect and reduce the supply and demand of illicit drugs and other substances in Kwara.
He said the command was doing well already in terms of counselling, sensitisation and rehabilitation.
The new commandant explained that what he would do differently was to enforce and take patrol unit seriously.
“We are going to lay emphasis on being proactive, and take demand reduction aspect of our activities to the grassroots.
“We will be engaging the community leaders, traditional rulers and the opinion leaders and task them on their roles.
“We are ready to clamp down on anybody that sells narcotic substances,” he said.
The Kwara NDLEA commandant then urged the dealers in illicit drugs to repent or leave the state.
He advised youths to stay off the substances, saying that it does nobody any good.
Ibrahim solicited for the support of all and sundry in the fight against drug abuse.
